The definition of “inspire” is to “Fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.”
This clearly sums up the experience my family has had. Our family has two boys ages 12 and 6. Like most siblings, they are completely different children with different needs and abilities. Honestly, I never expected to be a homeschool parent. I had not been homeschooled as a child growing up and quite frankly, I didn't have the best view of a homeschool education. However, when my oldest son who was diagnosed with ADD, he began to experience extreme anxiety over feeling left behind in a traditional public school and we knew we had to make a change for our child.
Since we had exhausted all other resources within the school system, even trying medication (which ended up not being for us, although it may work for others), we decided we would try homeschooling. We researched many options and decided on Inspire Charter Schools because of the ability it gives us to tailor our son's education to his needs. This was important to us because his feelings of being left behind were a reality as there was a lot of material we needed to go back and review. Not just to get him up to speed, but more importantly, to get him to believe that he can learn new and challenging concepts with just a little more one on one attention.
Although we were initially timid about our choice to homeschool, all that changed when we would see his face light up as he grasped concepts that previously he verbalized he couldn't get. So yes, Inspire Charter Schools has done just that, inspired him to believe in himself and his abilities to learn and even enjoy learning! Along the way, it has also inspired me to believe in myself as a parent. To not be afraid to think outside of the box. To create for my children the kind of learning environment they personally need to succeed and most importantly, to feel good about themselves while learning.
On many occasions, my son has said: "I have learned more now than I ever did before." While that may or may not be completely accurate, I love hearing that he feels so positive and happy with his abilities now while in the Inspire Charter Schools program.
